OCCI trade delegation boosts global expertise in Australia

SUHAR, SEPT 13

The official visit of the Omani trade delegation to Sydney, Australia, led by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), underscored the transformative role of international missions in shaping the skills, vision and global outlook of Omani entrepreneurs. Part of a wider tour across Australia, the delegation aimed not only to strengthen bilateral economic ties but also to provide entrepreneurs with firsthand exposure to innovation-driven environments.

The Sydney itinerary featured a high-level business forum organised by the Australia Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the Government of New South Wales.

Attended by Omani and Australian officials, investors and business leaders, discussions centred on artificial intelligence, digital innovation, renewable energy and knowledge-based industries.

For Omani entrepreneurs, the benefits of such visits extend far beyond traditional trade objectives.

Eng Qasim al Balushi, Business Development Manager at OQ’s Ladeen programme, said, “Our participation through OQ and Ladeen reflects Oman’s commitment to strengthening its global presence. Beyond promoting investments in polymers and manufacturing, this mission allows entrepreneurs to learn from international expertise in technology, logistics, and renewable energy, directly supporting Oman Vision 2040.”

Maktoum al Muqbali, Chair of the Digital Economy and AI Committee at OCCI Al Batinah North, highlighted the opportunities for fostering innovation and entrepreneurship: “The delegation’s engagement opens avenues for collaboration with Australian institutions specialising in technology and start-ups. It allows us to support emerging entrepreneurs while introducing models that can be adapted to Oman’s economic landscape.”

Entrepreneur Huda al Muqbali from Al Batinah North Governorate added, “These international experiences are invaluable. They provide exposure to global practices, inspire creative thinking, and help develop Omani solutions that are both competitive and sustainable. Such visits are key to preparing entrepreneurs for the challenges of an interconnected economy.”

During their stay, the delegation visited innovation and research hubs, including Tech Central, the University of Technology Sydney, and Hysata, a world leader in high-efficiency hydrogen electrolysers. These visits offered delegates insight into practical applications of AI, robotics, digital education, and green energy, while facilitating direct engagement with Australian start-ups and academic institutions.

The mission concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen partnerships, expand knowledge networks and create new investment opportunities.

Participants emphasised that international exposure is critical to developing entrepreneurial talent, broadening perspectives, and nurturing a culture of innovation – ultimately contributing to Oman’s strategic vision for economic diversification and sustainable growth.
